In a Way, Immortal – The Johan Cruyff NFT from FC Barcelona

In an effort to commemorate one of the finest ever goals to ever be scored by one of its players, FC Barcelona is launching its first-ever NFT. Titled ‘In a Way, Immortal,’ the inaugural digital asset from the Catalonian club is a celebration of club legend Johan Cruyff’s unforgettable flying kick goal against Atlético Madrid in 1973.

The asset is audiovisual in nature, as it includes a dynamic, molten gold animation of Cruyff’s outrageous jump and volley, as well as a 40-second film clip that includes music from a 30-piece orchestra and real sound from the Camp Nou crowd.

The NFT is also augmented with four more NFTs, each of which being as still image from the animated version. The five NFTs were made in collaboration with local digital super studio BCN Visuals, as well as the World of Johan Cruyff organization. Overall, they took over 10,000 hours to produce.

The asset will be sold by Sotheby’s via a hybrid auction. Online bidding for the asset began on July 21st, with a special live auction to take place at Sotheby’s New York on July 29th (with online bidding to still continue throughout the live auction). Bids can be made using BTC, ETH, USDC, DOT or fiat.

The single winner of the NFT will also receive an array of other FC Barcelona-related perks and experiences, such as becoming a Barça Digital Ambassador, meet and greets, visits to La Masia (the club’s training facility), hospitality rights for a minimum of five years, the right to play at the Spotify Camp Nou, and more.

In a Way, Immortal is the first of ten NFT editions that the club will be releasing across the coming months, with the remaining nine also set to feature an iconic moment from the club’s coveted history.
